Autumn Australian Wedding
I've been moving my studio & doing some much needed sorting out of boxes of junk.
I came across photos of a wedding I did in the early 1990's. Sadly, they're a bit knocked about but I was able to salvage some images.
In another life I was a dressmaker. I had a small business called Seam Stress making bridal gowns.
This creative & very unconventional bride (centre) chose divine autumn silks & satins for her bridal party. Her skirt was made out of the most exquisite (& expensive) silk, hand embroidered with the finest metal wire. I was terrified cutting it!
The bridesmaid's skirts are all made out of a bolt of heavy satin that was rescued from the demolition of an old fabric shop in Paris. The shop had been locked up for decades. The heavy brocade trim at the bottom of their skirts is from the same shop. The bride's top is exactly the same as the bridesmaids with the exception of the silk brocade trim hand stitched around the edges.
All four girl were dancers. They looked incredibly elegant on the day arriving in a gold Rollsroyce.

- I am an Australian artist. I sold my first work when I lived in London just over 20 years ago. I have been exhibiting & selling since. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from RMIT in Melbourne where I majored in Painting & Film Making (animation). I love art & all things retro & vintage. I adore Blythe & my vintage Barbie dolls. I have 2 beautiful daughters - Scarlet Kiyoko Christine (8) & Talulah Kimiko Wendy (6). My more serious paintings are an attempt to find harmony between nature and man's impact upon it and a search to find beauty within the often harsh realities of life. I live on Sydney's Botany Bay. I am always saddened at the amount of rubbish I discover on our beautiful beaches. I collect this rubbish then embroider & stitch it on to my canvases. I like the idea of transforming something ugly in to something beautiful & new … my alchemy!
