Sacred Monsters by Sylvie Guillem & Akram Khan

I took my little Scarlet to her very 1st live ballet.

We saw the amazingly beautiful, playful & haunting Sacred Monsters by Sylvie Guillem & Akram Khan at the Sydney Opera House. The performance, singing, music & dialogue were spellbinding. Scarlet was on the edge of her seat & totally mesmerised! It really blew her 6 year old mind. She can't stop talking about it with wonder & awe. I still want to cry when I recall the beauty of their work. What an incredibly talented pair!

Hi Sharyne!!!

Thanks so so so much for your comment. You raise a fantastic point re: feminism and the fact that is has such a negative connotation.

I have tremendous respect for all types of feminists and find their knowledge of the topic quite inspiring. I don't know much re: the history of feminism in terms of the definition at hand (radical, third-wave, etc), but all I can stand for is what I know from my experiences.

So I guess when I say that I'm not a feminist, it simply means that I haven't figured out where to categorize myself on the spectrum. It's a bit like saying I'm not a photographer, b/c I haven't committed myself to studying the craft. I do, however practice photography techniques at times, but I wouldn't label myself as such.

Does that make ANY sense? I do hope I haven't offended you, and I think your points are right on. I'd love to talk with you more about your thoughts--- email me!!! :)

About Me

My photo
Sydney, NSW, Australia
I am an Australian artist. I sold my first work when I lived in London just over 20 years ago. I have been exhibiting & selling since. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from RMIT in Melbourne where I majored in Painting & Film Making (animation). I love art & all things retro & vintage. I adore Blythe & my vintage Barbie dolls. I have 2 beautiful daughters - Scarlet Kiyoko Christine (8) & Talulah Kimiko Wendy (6). My more serious paintings are an attempt to find harmony between nature and man's impact upon it and a search to find beauty within the often harsh realities of life. I live on Sydney's Botany Bay. I am always saddened at the amount of rubbish I discover on our beautiful beaches. I collect this rubbish then embroider & stitch it on to my canvases. I like the idea of transforming something ugly in to something beautiful & new … my alchemy!
